中国的城市发展自 2015 年开始，就已经进入到完全不同的发展阶段：中国城市过去30年以城市硬件和城市产业化建设为核心的发展道路已经走过了它的最高峰值。“明日城市”作为本次论坛的主题，关注城市的更新、转型与再生，以城市的未来作为视界、诉求和希冀，在强调愿景和情怀的同时，同样注重方法论、操作性、系统化和职业化，有助于理论成果的落地和实践推展。
Since 2015， China’s urban development has entered a totally new phase： over the last 30 years it has focused predominantly on urban ‘hardware’ and urban industrial development。 However， the time has come where it has already passed its peak。 Taking the concept of a “City for Tomorrow” as its main theme， the focus of this forum will be on urban renewal， transition and rebirth， and will look to the future of the city on the horizon as a source of aspiration and hope。 It will also place an emphasis on vision and feeling while stressing the importance of a methodological， operational， systematic and professional approach。 In doing so， we hope to create a theoretical framework that can be implemented to spur real progress。
“软城市”日益成为中国城市化进程所呼唤的一个概念。城市发展迫切需要找到超越既往因袭性城市化范式的发展思路、 价值准则与操作工具。基于中国当下的社会现实，以文化艺术为导向的城市设计，不但是中国城市化进程的必然需求，而 且必将对未来的城市发展和格局建立起到关键性作用。以现阶段的城市规划、建设模式去指导中国城市的未来发展， 无法 解决中国新型城市化的问题，我们提出艺术引导城市设计AUD新的综合理念（Art-oriented Urban Design），倡导一种 文化导向的城市发展思路，用艺术思维和城市设计激活、优化城市公共空间品质，彰显城市品格、活跃城市人文氛围、培 育创新动力，创造永续的经济社会价值和文化遗产，作为新时期中国城市文明建设的一个新标杆，传承文明，启迪未来。 作为彰显城市文化最直观、最显现的载体，公共艺术能够培育地域的文化创新力和文化生长力，营造人文氛围和塑造宜居 空间，优化城市品味和内涵，提升城市美誉度和打造城市品牌。同时，作为一种多元互动的文化学手段，公共艺术也是促 进社会经济发展和激发城市综合发展潜质的有力杠杆。而城市设计以艺术为导向，以历史为坐标，以跨学科和高瞻立意为 着力点，以人类生存品质为终极关怀，最终致力于未来城市的美丽蓝图和全面的可持续发展。
Given China’s ongoing urbanisation， the concept of “Soft City” has become more and more popular。 Cities urgently need to find new development paths， new norms and values， as well as new operational tools that can help them overcome old models and thinking。 Taking into account China’s current social reality， and using culture and art as a guiding principle for urban design， this concept not only reflects the necessity of a new process of urban development in China， but also places itself in a key role in the future of urban planning and development。 Guides for the future development of Chinese cities based on current urban planning and construction methods are no longer useful in trying to solve the problems of modern urbanisation。 We therefore propose Art - oriented Urban Design （AUD） as a new comprehensive concept， and advocate a culture guided urban development path， which combines art and urban design-based thinking in order to optimise the quality of urban public space， highlight a city’s character， stimulate a city’s humanistic spirit， foster creative energy， create sustainable economic， social and cultural heritage， and establish a new benchmark for the construction of Chinese urban civilisation in the new era。 In this way， we will be able to borrow from the heritage of our past and enlighten our future。 A key component of urban culture and most intuitive and most visible means of expression， public art can foster regional cultural creativity and cultural growth， create a humanistic atmosphere， shape living spaces， optimize a city’s taste and connotation， enhance urban reputation， and build a city’s brand。 At the same time it can serve as a multicultural means of interaction， and is a powerful platform through which to promote social and economic development and to stimulate the potential for comprehensive urban development。 Urban design is fundamentally art oriented。 It takes history as its starting point and utilizes an interdisciplinary approach and outlook。 With the quality of human living conditions as its key concern， it ultimately focuses on the future of a city， the creation of a beautiful blueprint， and comprehensive sustainable development。

“明日城市论坛2017 暨 第二届公共艺术与城市设计国际高峰论坛”由中央美术学院(微博)和石景山区人民政府主办，中央美术学院城市设计学院和DCL伦敦设计中心承办，将于2017年9月24日在中央美术学院美术馆学术报告厅举行。论坛以“明日城市”为主题，围绕未来“软城市”的规划建设，对艺术如何介入和引导城市设计展开研讨。本次论坛将有来自中国的五位专家和伦敦的七位专家，从六个课题和八个角度来分享他们在该领域的经验和心得。我们有理由相信，本届论坛必将产生多维的火花、丰厚的营养和能动性价值。
The“City for Tomorrow Conference 2017- 2nd International Summit on Public Art and Urban Design”， is hosted by China Central Academy of Fine Arts （CAFA） and Shijingshan District Government， Beijing。 It is co-organised by the City Design School， CAFA and Design Collective London。 The Conference will take place on the 24th of September 2017 in the Academic Reporting Hall at CAFA.The forum’s main topic will be “The City for Tomorrow” and will centre on the future planning and construction of a “soft city” while discussing how art can intervene and guide urban design。 Five experts from China and seven experts from London will discuss six topics and present eight perspectives in order to share their insights and experience in this field。 We firmly believe that this forum will produce multi dimensional ideas， food for thought， and a dynamic exchange of opinions。
